Laura Pollán on to the wall of the Cuban Embassy in Ottawa



This art intervention it is part of a series of portraits by Cuban artist Geandy Pavón. This time the face of Cuban dissident Laura Pollán was projected on to the wall of the Cuban Embassy in Ottawa, Canada. Laura Pollán was the leader of a dissident group call Damas de Blanco (Ladies in White) which holds pacific protest marches with the wives and spouses of political prisoners in Cuba to demand their release. The Ladies in White are routinely and violently repressed by the Cuban government. Pollan died of cardiorespiratory arrest on October 14, 2011, at the age of 63. She had been hospitalized since October 7. According to the Cuban government, she had suffered from dengue fever.
